Ochre Moon is run by Stuart & Lauren. We are currently based in The Yard for framing consultations, and our workshop is at our home overlooking the beautiful Alexandra Park in Hastings.

Stuart first started picture framing over 30 years ago. Over the years he has been an art technician, a picture framer, a decorator, a furniture maker, a crafts maker and an artist...basically anything that involves making wonderful things!

Lauren has been a crafts maker, an artist, an embroidery artist, an illustrator and was the Head of Arts Faculty at a local secondary school.

We started Ochre Moon as we have always dreamed of running our own creative business together. We love framing because we get to work with beautiful works of Art, intriguing collections, and people's most precious moments & memories.

We also both still create our own artwork and craft items, which you will soon find for sale in our online shop and at local markets!
Why are you called Ochre Moon?
We took ages to choose a name. We wanted something just right, that encapsulated both of us and what we love about art & making.
We are both obsessed with the idea of art as consciousness - art being the thing, the spark that made us human. We spend a lot of time pouring over prehistoric artworks, overwhelmed by the deep seated connection we have with these people who lived thousands of years ago. The marks they made, the things they chose to record.
One of the first materials that humans used for creation was red ochre...this mineral, crushed and chewed to a pigment, and applied to rocks, captured the first musings of humanity...and we still use this same pigment today!
For us, Ochre symbolises creativity, consciousness, curiosity and expression. As for Moon...night is the time of the unconscious. The time of creativity & freedom where the moon presides over our dreams and anything is possible. Together, Ochre Moon captures an essence of creativity, freedom, curiosity and the constant to and fro between the conscious and unconscious mind.
This is the place where Art lives.
